CHICAGO -- CMI is pleased to announce that its CraftMaster molded door designs (door facings) and full line of solid core CraftMaster Green Doors have been certified by Scientific Certification Services (SCS) to contain a minimum of 70 percent pre-consumer recycled wood content. SCS is a third-party provider of certification endorsed by the Forest Stewardship Council that conducts annual audits to confirm compliance.
“CMI has a strong commitment to following sustainable manufacturing practices and providing our customers with products that help them meet their green building needs,” said Bob Merrill, CMI’s president and CEO.
CMI uses sawmill chips generated as residual waste from sawmill operations and field chips to make CraftMaster door designs, which are used to make CraftMaster Green Doors. Field chips are the residuals from field chipping operations of tree tops and leftover wood. Left unused, this wood would simply rot or be sent to landfills. Instead, it is broken down into fibers, and then exposed to intense heat and pressure and converted into engineered durable, beautiful wood products.
With the combination of environmentally friendly raw materials and sustainable manufacturing practices, CraftMaster Green Doors help building professionals contribute to important green building industry programs, including LEED for Commercial Interiors, LEED for New Construction and Major Renovations, LEED for Homes, and NAHB’s National Green Building Standard.
CraftMaster Green Doors have no added urea formaldehyde and are made with sustainable materials, recycled content and low VOC primers and adhesives. They are available in all CraftMaster raised panel, molded door designs and can also be made with a solid GreenLite™ fiberboard door core for added heft, weight and sound-deadening properties.
To complement a wide range of home styles and decorating tastes, CraftMaster Green Doors are available in all CraftMaster raised panel, molded door designs from the original six-panel Colonist® and four-panel, square-top Coventry® to the two-panel, square top Carrara®; arched top, two-panel plank Cashal™ and others.
