The Board of Directors has selected Stephen P. Conwell to become the new president of SFPA. "Our executive committee and the board acted with due diligence and completed a thorough search process,
and found the strongest candidate with a most impressive industry background," noted SFPA Chairman Tom Rice in making the announcement this week during the association's Annual Meeting.
Steve's forest products industry experience includes eleven years with Weyerhaeuser Company, where he managed national account marketing and sales distribution along the east coast. For the next twelve years, Steve worked for The Home Depot, first as divisional market manager then working up to global merchandising/marketing manager, lumber/building materials. He was indirectly responsible for nine distribution centers, store service enhancements, productivity merchandising and inventory optimization. Steve is a graduate of UCLA where he earned his degree in economics and political science. He was a member of the UCLA golf team.
"I am honored to be a part of this organization representing all stakeholders," Steve said in accepting his new position. "This is a long-term strategic opportunity for the association to advance the Southern Pine lumber industry," he added.
The Southern Forest Products Association was founded in 1915 as the Southern Pine Association. Today, SFPA is recognized as one of the foremost trade organizations in the forest products industry and represents Southern Pine lumber manufacturers from Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
