Mr. James Earl Loy, President of the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 4, 2013. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on September 2, 1947.
He was married to Nancy Elaine Bailey and they have two children and four grandchildren. He has a twin brother, John, and a sister, Brenda, who reside in Tennessee.
Mr. Loy became President of the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau in 2003. His positions prior to this include Quality Supervisor, Executive Assistant, Director of the Lumber Program, Secretary of the Bureau and Director of Field Staff. He came to work for the Bureau in 1971 following graduation from the University of Tennessee in 1970 with a B.S. in Forestry and a brief period working as a professional forester.
Mr. Loy was loved and respected by the employees, customers and vendors of the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau and his leadership will be missed.
His associations with industry groups were wide spread. He possessed an extensive knowledge of lumber and was frequently sought for his advice, technical knowledge and opinion. He was a member of the Administrative and Finance Sub-Committee and the Enforcement Sub-Committee of the American Lumber Standard Committee. He was an honorable businessman who devoted his time, energy and Christian ethics to strengthen the Southern Pine industry.
Jim was a faithful member of the Bellview Church of Christ, where he also served as a deacon.
He enjoyed hunting with friends in Alabama, Texas and South Carolina. Church, family and friends meant everything to him.
Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Funeral services following at 11:00 A.M. Michael Hatcher and Scot Brazell will be officiating. Burial will follow in Bayview Memorial Park Cemetery. Click here to read Jim Loy's obituary.
