|CHICAGO -- Building Media Inc., a construction education
company, teaming-up with industry leaders has launched the
Hurricane-Resistant Construction Network an online help center devoted
entirely to educating builders and code officials at www.hurricaneconstruction.net.
The Hurricane Construction website contains over six hours of
Hurricane construction training videos, along with a comprehensive directory of hurricane and flood-resistant code and construction information. The site includes expert-hosted forums specific to flood and wind-zone codes, construction, remediation, remodeling and design.
--Hurricane & Flood resistant buildings - Steve Easley, building
--Mold & IAQ - Susan Raterman, industrial hygienist and IAQ specialist
--Warm & Moist Climate Construction - Mike DeWein, BCAP
--Building Codes & Beyond - Jeff Burton, IBHS
--Design & Restoration - Gary Katz, Brent Hull
The Hurricane Construction website's primary tool is an easily accessible,
online help center with timely wind and flood-resistant construction
information. With content coming from initiative sponsors, as well as from
the DOE/Building America and the Institute for Building and Health Safety
(IBHS), website visitors are able to quickly find answers to their hurricane
related building and code questions.
"For builders in the Gulf hurricanes Rita and Katrina served as a wake-up
call," says Jeff Burton, IBHS Code Expert. "The introduction of new codes in Louisiana and Mississippi, and the constant revisions in all
hurricane-affected areas, point out the need for easily accessible
hurricane-resistant construction training."
