CHARLOTTE, NC -- The International Code Council Foundation (ICCF) designated renovation expert Mike Holmes of Holmes on Homes™ as an Honorary Code Leader for bringing the message of "Build It Right" and "Make it Right" to the construction industry at the 2010 International Code Council Annual Conference in Charlotte, N.C.
Holmes addressed more than 800 code officials via video about the importance of following codes and using permits to ensure quality construction by trained and skilled tradesmen and contractors.
"Mike Holmes is known for building it right, which strongly supports the Code Councils efforts to build a safer world," ICC CEO Rick Weiland said. "Mike sends a powerful message to the trades. We are grateful for his support and look forward to working with him to create safer homes."
Around the world, thousands of lives are lost and billions of dollars in damage occur in places where people and property are not protected by building codes and standards. Holmes believes in doing a job right the first time and is making it his mission to expose poor, substandard workmanship in the building industry with his internationally successful show Holmes on Homes.
"You need to be the guys that don't settle for minimum codes and say; we can do this better," said Holmes. "The truth is if we all stay together as a team, codes will progress and move in the right direction. That's essential not only for code officials but for the public. That makes sense to me."
