| GLENDALE, AZ -- United States Gypsum Company, a subsidiary of USG Corporation, has announced the opening of its new manufacturing plant in Glendale, Arizona. The company is North America's leading maker of gypsum wallboard and joint compounds, which are marketed under the SHEETROCK® brand name.
U.S. Gypsum selected the Phoenix area for the facility because of its proximity to a large and rapidly expanding customer base throughout the Southwest.
The 96,000-square-foot facility employs about 30 people and manufactures a variety of joint compound and wall texture products. Joint compound is used with joint tape in finishing gypsum wallboard to create smooth walls and ceilings in new construction and remodeling projects. Products stocked and distributed from the plant include joint tape, primers, corner bead and DUROCK® Brand Cement Board.
The fully automated plant is housed in an industrial park that provides convenient access for transporting both raw materials and finished goods. As part of its commitment to the project, U.S. Gypsum completely renovated the existing building, along with the eight-acre property on which it is situated.
The state-of-the-art plant was designed specifically to serve the needs of local U.S. Gypsum customers, who include home improvement retailers, building material dealers, lumberyards, and paint and decorating distributors. To help ensure that production operations proceed smoothly, as many raw materials as possible are sourced locally. The plant also incorporates the latest computer-controlled raw material dispensing technology, which facilitates precise mixing of various ingredients.
