| ATLANTA, GA -- (PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX) The Home Depot announced Tuesday that it has been awarded a General Services Administration (GSA) Schedule contract, effective July 1, 2003. The Home Depot is the largest retailer with a GSA Schedule contract, as well as one of the largest suppliers of building, repair, and maintenance products available to all federal agencies through GSA's Hardware SuperStore Multiple Award Schedule Program.
"Home Depot values the opportunity to expand its government business," said Bob Nardelli, chairman, president & CEO of The Home Depot. "During the past year, we have been putting the people and processes in place to ensure we follow the correct procedure to act as a federally approved contractor. The Home Depot takes compliance very seriously. A GSA Schedule contract enables us to provide a higher level of commitment and service to the federal government, and it opens the door to additional, large-scale government business opportunities."
Obtaining the GSA Schedule contract will make it easier for Home Depot and federal agencies to do business together by offering federal procurement customers a more streamlined procurement process.
"We have convenient locations around the country, a wide selection of more than 55,000 quality products, and associates ready to serve our federal government and military customers," said Nardelli.
Federal government customers may use any register in the stores, including the Pro Sales Desk. Available in more than 1,200 of the 1,407 U.S. Home Depot stores, the Pro Sales area provides federal government customers and professional contractors with such services as phone and fax ordering and a separate checkout area. Additionally, nearly every store offers delivery service.
To meet the unique needs of the federal government on all levels, The Home Depot is launching "The Home Depot Government Solutions Group." Part of the team will be based in Washington, D.C., to work directly with federal agencies, while an outside sales team will fulfill the needs of federal agencies and military installations across the country.
To develop a structure and strategy to best serve the federal government, Home Depot worked closely with Maintenance Warehouse (MWH), a Home Depot company that has served the federal government for the last four years under its own GSA Schedule. MWH key product lines include plumbing, hardware, lighting, electrical, janitorial, HVAC, appliances and tools. Together, the two businesses provide a full line of products and services for federal government customers.
The Home Depot GSA Schedule contract number is GS-06F-0052N. Visit http://www.gsa.gov for details about GSA.
