| Dixieline Lumber Company, a division of Lanoga Corporation, servicing the needs of contractors, builders and homeowners in Southern California, announced today that an agreement "in principle" has been reached to acquire Barr Lumber Company (El Centro), a lumber distribution and truss manufacturing facility in El Centro, California. Barr (El Centro) is not affiliated with Barr Lumber Company, Inc. which operates lumberyards and retail stores in San Bernardino, Yucca Valley, Apple Valley, Twentynine Palms, Long Beach and Rosemead, a door shop in Apple Valley and a truss facility in San Bernardino.
Barr Lumber (El Centro) currently operates one, full-service lumber distribution yard and truss manufacturing facility in El Centro along with a showroom for doors and windows, a kitchen cabinet center, and a door and trim shop, within the larger facility.
Barr Lumber (El Centro) will immediately begin operations as part of Dixieline Lumber & Home Centers on August 2, 2004.
In a separate transaction, Lanoga also announced that it has acquired 27 Wickes Lumber operations in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Kentucky. The operations will do business within Lanoga’s United Building Centers division. Included in the transaction are 20 lumberyards, 5 component plants, and 2 distribution centers.
Lanoga President and CEO, Paul Hylbert, said, “We are very excited about having the opportunity of bringing these Wickes operations into the Lanoga fold. The acquisition of 35 Michigan and Wisconsin operations in December of 2002 has worked out well for us, and we expect similar positive results from this group.
The 27 Wickes operations will do approximately $175 million in sales this year. Dale Kukowski, UBC President indicated that “we have been looking at these fine operations for many years, and we look forward to having the Wickes people join the UBC team.
(In addition to Dixieline, Lanoga Corporation operates 305 facilities in 20 Mid Western and Western states, including United Building Centers in the Midwest and Rocky Mountains, Lumbermens in the Northwest, Spenard Builders Supply in Alaska and Home Lumber in Colorado.)
